FAMILY ROAD TRIP 2019

CALIFORNIA TO COLORADO

                What is a road trip about?  Discovery, grasping the world as a bigger place than home, fun, bonding, nature, new concepts, beauty, and fun.  Shawn, Chloe, Gil and I explored together.

Chloe loved it, where astronauts train. Three quarters of a mile wide, almost 600 feet deep, 50,000 years.

  Plans, expectation, the road climbs      Running quickly up to the Canadian border from our hub in southern Oregon, we dashed through Portland, and spent the night at a forested rest stop. We bypassed Seattle – the largest city on our route (700,000 population). After visiting friends in Bellingham, we crossed into BC. BRITISH COLUMBIA (BC)      Cultus Lake was a busy campground for locals. A lovely drive to it, except for the billboards that were such a throwback for us. The campground was great, forest and lake, spacious sites.      We re-visited Wells Gray Provisional Park for a quick peak at the outrageous Spahats Falls. The Great Canadian Adventure - Part 3

  As long as I live, I’ll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I’ll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can.  John Muir   THE ROCKIES          I only booked one night at the next provincial park.     Had I been sure of a reservation at Mount Robson, we may have spent more days there.   From there we would cross into Alberta and be on mountain time. Mt. Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies (12,972’) and said to be visible only twelve days a year.   Guess what we saw on arrival?   We went straight to the visitor center but they were closed  6pm The Indian name is roughly translated: Mountain of the Spiral Road.   We were impresse d with the layout of the campground when we heard it.   Site #102  Blue columbine, now we are in the Rockies   Leaving next morning at 7am, we got to see it as most people do, gloriou...

NORTHBOUND TWO: RETURN

Return roads unknown, adventure of the heart,  deeply connected     We followed the Tanana River l eaving Fairbanks, turning back toward Canada. Our path south meant going through Tok again. We stayed at the same campground and did laundry and caught up with wi-fi needs. We had ten days to get to Prince Rupert for a scheduled ferry. We made fewer stops along the Destruction Bay heaves as we crossed back into the Yukon. YUKON Welcoming committee at the border  The Kluane mountains from the washboard road      We blew past (sort of) our previous stop and went off-grid for the night at Congdon Creek in Kluane National Park.
